Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 11, 2026
Wick ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy.
This policy explains what information we collect, where it is stored, how it
is used, and your rights regarding that information when you use the
Wick mobile application.
Where Your Data Lives
Most of your data never leaves your device. Wick
stores journal entries, mood ratings, your profile name and pronouns,
notification preferences, cosmetic selections, and AI-generated reflections
in your device's local storage (AsyncStorage). This data is not uploaded
to our servers during normal use.
Our servers store only what is needed to manage your account and in-app
economy: a unique user identifier, your ember balance, your ember
transaction ledger, and the date of your last journaling activity (used
solely to calculate daily ember awards and streak bonuses). We do not store
the text of your journal entries, your mood ratings, or your profile name
and pronouns on our servers.
Information We Collect
Stored on your device only
-
Journal entries. The text you write, the date, the mood
you selected, any journaling prompt used, and the AI-generated reflection
are all kept in local storage on your device.
-
Mood ratings. The mood label you attach to each entry
is stored locally alongside the entry.
-
Profile name and pronouns. An optional display name and
pronouns you set in Settings. These are stored on-device only and are
never sent to our servers.
-
Notification preferences. Whether daily reminders are
enabled and your preferred reminder time. These control local OS
notifications scheduled entirely on your device via iOS/Android notification
services — we do not use any third-party push notification service.
-
Cosmetic selections. The candle style and colour theme
you have equipped are stored locally to personalise your experience.
-
Auth session token. A short-lived authentication token
is stored in your device's secure enclave (Expo SecureStore) to keep you
signed in. It is deleted when you log out.
Stored on our servers
-
Account identity. A unique user identifier, email
address, first name, last name, and profile image URL received from your
identity provider when you sign in. These are stored on our servers to
maintain your session and are refreshed each time you sign in.
-
Ember balance and transaction ledger. Your current ember
balance and a record of each credit (daily award, streak bonus, ember pack
purchase) and debit (cosmetic purchase). This ledger is used to keep your
balance accurate and to resolve any disputes.
-
Daily activity tracking. The date of your most recent
journaling activity, stored solely to calculate your daily ember award and
streak bonus. We do not store the content, length, or any other attribute
of your entries.
-
Owned cosmetics. A list of candle skins and themes you
have unlocked with embers, so your collection persists if you reinstall
the app.
Transmitted when you use AI features
-
AI feature content. When you request a reflection or
a weekly reading, the relevant journal entry text and mood rating are
sent from your device to our server and forwarded to Anthropic for
processing. We do not retain this content after the AI response is
returned to you. See "AI Features and Anthropic" below.
Received from in-app purchases
-
Ember pack purchases. When you buy an ember pack,
RevenueCat notifies our server of the purchase event and the product
purchased. We receive no payment card details; those are handled
exclusively by the App Store or Google Play.
How We Use Your Information
- To authenticate your account and maintain your session securely.
- To calculate and credit your daily ember award and streak bonus.
- To process one-time ember pack purchases and update your balance.
- To maintain your owned-cosmetics list across devices and reinstalls.
- To generate AI reflections and weekly readings when you request them.
- To respond to your support requests.
AI Features and Anthropic
Wick's reflection and weekly-reading features are powered by
Anthropic's Claude AI. When you tap "Reflect" on a journal entry or request
a weekly reading, the text of that entry and your mood rating are transmitted
to our server and then forwarded to Anthropic's API for processing.
Anthropic acts as a data processor on our behalf. You can review Anthropic's
privacy practices at
anthropic.com/privacy
.
AI features are optional. You can use Wick for
journaling without ever triggering a reflection or weekly reading, in which
case your entry text and mood data never leave your device.
Notifications
If you enable daily reminders, Wick schedules local notifications
directly on your device using iOS or Android system notification services.
We do not use any third-party push notification provider. Notification
preferences (on/off and time) are stored only on your device.
Third-Party Services
We use a small number of trusted third-party services to operate Wick.
Each service processes only the data necessary for its function:
-
Anthropic — processes journal entry text and mood data
solely to generate AI reflections and weekly readings when you request them.
See their privacy policy at
anthropic.com/privacy
.
-
RevenueCat — manages one-time in-app ember pack purchases.
RevenueCat receives a pseudonymous user identifier and purchase event
notifications from the App Store or Google Play. They do not have access
to your journal data. See their privacy policy at
revenuecat.com/privacy
.
-
Replit (authentication) — we use Replit's OpenID Connect
service to authenticate users. Replit's privacy policy is available at
replit.com/site/privacy
.
We do not sell your personal data to any third party.
Data Retention and Deletion
On-device data (journal entries, mood ratings, profile,
preferences, cosmetic selections) is retained until you use the
"Erase all data on this device" option in Settings or uninstall Wick.
Erasing your data resets the app to its default state on your device. We
have no copy of this data on our servers and cannot recover it for you.
Server-side data (account identity, ember balance, ember
transaction ledger, daily activity date, owned cosmetics) is retained for
as long as your account is active. To request deletion of your server-side
account data, please contact us at the email address below and we will
process your request in accordance with applicable law.
AI processing — journal content sent to Anthropic for
reflection or weekly-reading requests is not stored by us after the response
is returned. Anthropic's own retention practices are described in their
privacy policy.
Your Rights
Depending on your location you may have rights including access, correction,
deletion, and portability of your personal data. To exercise any of these
rights, or to request deletion of your server-side account data, please
contact us at the address below.
Children's Privacy
Wick is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect
personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has
provided us personal information, please contact us and we will promptly
delete it.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of material
changes by updating the "Last updated" date above. Your continued use of
Wick after any change constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
